Immunizations
Students in all grades are required by law to have an official up-to-date South Carolina Certificate of Immunization on file in the school office. Failure to comply can result in an out-of-school suspension.

Medications
When possible, medications should be given by parents/guardians before or after school hours.
 
All medications (prescription and non-prescription) must be brought in by a parent/guardian, and must be accompanied by a "Permission for Medication" form.
A physician's signature is required on the form for any medications to be administered at the school. A parent's written note is no longer acceptable, and the medication will not be administered without the form and physician's signature.

 
Any student who is required to take medication at school must have a “Permission for Medication” form filled out and on file in the school clinic. Parents must bring medication into the clinic, and all prescriptions must be kept up to date.
 
New and refilled prescriptions must be provided in a new container, appropriately labeled with the following typed information:
a.       student's name
b.       name of medication
c.       time(s) to be administered
d.       dosage
e.       strength
f.        directions for use
g.       approximate duration of use
h.       physician's name
i.         date
j.         pharmacy name, address, phone number
 
Non-prescription (over the counter) medications in the following categories are requested to be delivered to the school by the parent/legal guardian and must be accompanied by the district medication form completed by the parent/legal guardian, in the manufacturer’s smallest original container available. 

Aiken County School District (ACSD) and its employees reserve the right to refuse to honor medication requests that are not consistent with professional standards and/or deemed unsafe for the school setting. Requests from parent/guardians for administration of herbal/alternative medicinal products, “off-label” or investigational medications will need a written order from a healthcare practitioner who is recognized by SC’s Dept of Labor, Licensing, and Regulations as authorized to prescribe medications.

Screening Notification
This is to notify parents of the screening programs within the Aiken County Public Schools. The area of screening and students to be screened include:
  • Speech/Language – Students who have been referred to the Speech Therapist by parent, teacher, or administrator, and all students who are new to our district will be screened upon parental permission. The areas of screening will focus on one or more of the following: Oral Motor Examination, Voice, Fluency, Articulation and Receptive, Expressive and/or Pragmatic Language Skills. Referrals may be submitted to the Speech Therapist at any time during the school year.
  • Hearing – All 4K, kindergarten, first, third, and fifth grade students, new students, referrals, and high risk students who have medical problems associated with hearing impairment or who failed the re-screening the previous year.
  • Vision – All 4K, kindergarten, first, third, fifth grade students.
The goal is to identify those students in the above areas so that immediate action/intervention is implemented. Parents will be notified if a student is recommended for further evaluation in speech/language. If a student fails the hearing or vision re-screening, parents will receive a letter.
